Chase and Zachary's Story

Chase: Age 7
Zachary: Age 4
Sanford Children’s Hospital
Cancer and Cellulitis

Zachary and Chase are brothers with an unbreakable bond. Having both overcome incredible odds and different medical challenges, Zachary and Chase — just two years apart — are nearly inseparable.

When Zachary was only two months old, he was diagnosed with stage 4S neuroblastoma, a cancerous tumor that develops from nerve tissue. Unfortunately, surgery was impossible as the tumor wound around his organs. Zachary is a fighter and after tumor resection (TX) treatment, is cancer-free to this day.

Chase also showed his ability to fight, but on a different battleground. Just one year ago, Chase developed cellulitis, a skin infection caused by bacteria. It didn’t take long before the cellulitis had spread to his neck and face, causing inflammation so severe his eyes swelled shut. Thankfully, strong antibiotics helped ease the pain and rid his body of the rash. Today, Chase is proud to show off the “battle wound” from where his IV was inserted.
